If you are planning to buy gold ornaments, it’s essential to know how to test gold at home and how to differentiate between real vs fake gold. This guide will help you identify whether the gold you are buying (or already own) is genuine.

1. Look for Hallmark or Purity Stamp

The easiest way to identify real gold jewelry is by checking for a hallmark.

  • Real gold will have a karat stamp like 18K, 22K, or 24K.

  • Some countries also use numbers like 750 (18K) or 916 (22K).

  • In India, check for the BIS Hallmark.

2. Magnet Test at Home
